Jessica Livermore (jessica@1stpresbyterian.com) Director of Children’s Ministry, is coordinating the Kids Mission team.
Kids Mission is the children’s missions conference held concurrent with the World Missions Conference. Our desire is to encourage our children to adopt God’s heart for the world, to see and love the world as God does, and to accept some personal responsibility for sharing the message of God’s grace with others.
Children ages 3 through 5th grade are invited to Kids Mission each evening at the First Presbyterian Student Center located on the second floor on the Children’s SS Dept (4th/ 5th grade Room). If you have children in this age range, we hope they will participate. The children will hear missionary stories and experience various cultures through crafts, music, games, and snacks.
We look forward to Kids Mission, one of our conference’s highest priorities. We deeply desire that the vision shared will encourage our children to develop hearts for telling others at home and around the world about the love of Jesus.
Instructions for speakers
Please prepare a 15-minute story for our kids. Each gathering should be 25-30 Prek-5th graders. We want the kids to walk away knowing what a missionary does, why you do it, and about the cultures you live in.
Elements to consider (but are not limited to):
· A day in your life as a missionary living in your country *
· How your culture is different from America*
· What the people believe there*
· Life elements (what you eat, what kind of housing, schooling, etc)
· Pets or interesting animals
· Popular sports or games in your country
· How you celebrate Christmas and other holidays)
· American items not available to you in your country
Also consider teaching the kids a bit of your language:
· Hello
· Good-bye
· My name is …..
We have your request for audio/visual equipment that you fill out during your registration for this conference. If you need special equipment for your Sunday school presentation, please let us know by September 30th. We are unable to provide laptop computers. The children would love to see photos or a video of your country and its people.
Snacks and crafts/games from around the world will be part of the evening. All we need from you is to tell your story and hang out with the children and leaders for the hour. Be prepared to answer questions after your story and as you interact throughout the evening.
We would also like your children to participate with you in Kids Mission (if applicable). Our children would enjoy hearing from your children—what they like about their country, etc. Thank you very much.
-
Please remember to wear your nametag to all conference events.
It serves as your meal pass and helps members recognize and connect with you throughout the conference. -

Probably the most important instruction to relay on your speaking assignments before the congregation is to stay within your time constraint!!!!
The folks at First Presbyterian Church are very time conscious. They expect conference services and events to end on time!! Consequently, events—particularly evening services—are scheduled down to the minute.
Sunday School (10:15am-11:00am)
Note: Classes may not start at 10:15am sharp. However, it is best to get there at 10:15am to review any set-up requirements and begin meeting class members.
Sunday morning is a great time to meet people and initiate relationships. As much as is possible, please tailor your speaking to the people group making up the class or department.
Be sure to “tell your story” and “share your experiences.” People want to hear about you, what you do, your country, the culture, and the people to whom you minister.
First Presbyterian Church has a wealth of untapped human resources that could be utilized on the mission field. Therefore, feel free to challenge your class to consider serving overseas or going on a World Missions trip. Please refrain from a “hard sale” as people generally don’t respond.
We hope this will be a very enjoyable and fulfilling time for you during your time with the folks at First Presbyterian Church.

First Pres Chattanooga currently holds two worship services on Sunday mornings — 9am (more contemporary) and at 11am (traditional).
Pastor David Gentino is our guest speaker for Conference Sunday. He will speak from the pulpit in the Sanctuary, and there will be a live-feed broadcast of his sermon in the Fellowship Hall and online.
Mission partners will be introduced (in person) to the congregation at the beginning of each service. Please find your reserved place (with your name) in the Sanctuary front seats. You’re welcome to stay for the second service after your introduction, or if you prefer, you can step out during the greeting time to head to the lunch celebration
Details about this will be provided at Orientation.
